The Blues

Due to the weather I have had a bad case of the blues.  This is what I have felt like doing for more than a week now.

Last Thursday is when all of the ice and snow rolled in.  It was 4 days before I could even leave the house.  We had to get out Monday morning because the girls had dentist appointments and the roads were still so slick that I almost got hit by a guy sliding into my lane.  Finally, on Tuesday everything started to melt and we ventured out to the mall to do a little shopping.  Things are starting to look up.

Today though was pretty good.  My husband said I could purchase a serger that I have been wanting for quite awhile.  I am so excited!  Now I just have to figure out how to thread the thing.  The rest is a piece of cake…I think.

Hopefully trying to figure out my new serger will pull me out of my want to do nothing slump but two more storm systems are headed our way.  I NEED SUNSHINE!

Cookies Cookies Everywhere

I have been absent from blogging because I have been dealing with these.

Girl Scout cookies.  I took this picture after more than half of the cookies had been picked up by the troop.  I am the cookie chair this year for our troop so until March this is how my living room will look.  But at least now we are in the groove and things will settle down.

I have almost finished my benches except for the tops.  I need to pick up a 2 x 12 or see if I have a couple of 2 x 6’s in the garage that will work.  I am also working on a few things that I will hopefully be able to share over the next couple of days.  Until then…

My Farmhouse Table Dimensions

For those of you who have asked about the dimensions of my kitchen table it is 52.5″ square.  Here is the modified cut list. The original cut list came from Ana at  Knock Off Wood.

Cut List

A) 4 – 2×6 cut at 30″ (Legs)
B) 2 - 2×2 cut at 49.5″ (Inside End Supports)
C) 2 – 2×4 @ 49.5″ (Side Apron)
D) 2 – 2×4 @ 41.5″ (End Apron)
E) 5 – 2×2 cut at 49.5″ (Under tabletop supports)
F) 9 – 2×6 cut at 49.5″ (Tabletop pieces) – and I concur with Ana that these must be Very Very straight!

As per the assembly of the table you just continue the same way that Ana shows on her website.  The only difference is with the Under Tabletop Supports.  Once the table base is standing just measure the space between the 2×2’s and divide by 5 to get your spacing for them.  You should be spacing them about 7.75″ part.  It works out beautifully.  Enjoy!

Table Is Complete

WIP Item

What is a WIP item?  The following is an example of a WIP item.  Also know as a Work In Progress!

I lack two boards and some wood filler to complete my new table.  I modified the plans found HERE at my new favorite blog Knock Off Wood.  I have the wood to make the matching Farmhouse benches but since it is extremely cold they are just going to have to wait!  The Farmhouse table plans are for a rectangle but I wanted a square table for the kitchen.  It is about 53″ square and will seat 8 people.

The directions were easy to follow even if you don’t know much about woodworking.  I strongly recommend that you check out her blog.  As soon as I finish my table (over the weekend I hope) I will share it with Ana on her bragging board.

If you are feeling up to trying one of Ana’s designs she is having a giveaway on her blog for a $25 Lowe’s gift card.  Check it out:

I still don’t know if I want to stain or paint the table.  You will just have to check back and find out………see you later!

Merry Christmas!

I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas……

Oh wait!  It’s not a dream.  In my neck of the wood we got 14″ of snow which is almost unheard of here.  But the kiddos are elated that they have snow on Christmas day.

There were several snow drift ranging anywhere from 2 to 4 feet.  These photos do not do them justice at all!

Somewhere under all of this snow is our inflatable Santa Train.

And last but not least as we were shoveling the driveway today my oldest decided to build an igloo.  She is having the best time with all of this snow.

That has been our Christmas Day.  Hopefully we will be able to travel tomorrow and have Christmas with the whole family.  We will see how the turnpike looks tomorrow.  Stay warm and have a Merry Christmas!

Transformation In Progress

I found these items at the thrift store and will be transforming them into something new to me.  Hopefully I will get to work on this tomorrow as it is supposed to hit the mid 50’s.  It needs to be warm so the paint will actually dry in this lifetime.

I bought the spray paint at Home Depot which cost more than the candlesticks and hobnail votives combined.  And I found a whole box of the votives!!

Once again I searched the internet (not too long) but found very little info on them.  They were made by a company called Glass Products, Inc. but I didn’t find much about them either.  The last little goodies I found at the thrift store in Tulsa.  Milk glass of course!

It is a set of 6 milk glass custard style cups.  You can bake in them, put pudding in them or whatever else you can think of.  That’s about it for now.

My SIL is doing well and they plan to induce right after the Christmas weekend.  My nephew is keeping up all pretty busy and tomorrow we are going out to my brother’s house to help get everything prepared for the new baby to come home!

P.S.  I (my hubby) am still working on some of my blog graphics and stuff but hopefully it will all be done soon.  We’ll see…..

Back In Tulsa

I went back home for the weekend but now I am back in Tulsa hangin’ with my nephew again.  I will be here for another week and then head home for Christmas Eve and then turn around and come back for Christmas day!  Sounds crazy doesn’t it?

Anyways, at least I got a chance to check out my favorite thrift store over the weekend.  I found quite a few things that I just “had to have”.  I snapped a couple of pictures before I left but that was it.  I did bring a couple of more things with me though so maybe I will have a chance to do a couple of mini makeovers while I am here.  The first thing I fell in love with were these little beauties:

Plates

I’m really not sure why I just had to have them but since I picked all 8 of them up for $2.70 it wasn’t so bad.  I have visions of red bowls and maybe some blue or green accent plates…….I will have to keep my eyes open!

The second thing that caught my eye were these:

Perfume Jars

I love milk glass of any kind!  These are old perfume bottles from Avon.  They contained Birds of Paradise perfume and judging from the offensive odor coming from the bottles I am assuming they are about 30 to 40 years old.  But since I could not locate anything about them online I do not know for sure.  I haven’t got a clue what I am going to do with them yet but I know it will come to me soon.

Oh and guess what?  There is a thrift store close to my parents’ house that I visited today.  I will take some pictures tomorrow of what I found.  I hope to go back when I have a little more time to check some more stuff out.  They have a huge book section!

The Craziness Never Ceases

Just when I say, “If I can just make it through this weekend, it is smooth sailing from here.”  something else come up!  My sister-in-law is in her last trimester of her pregnancy and is now hospitalized until the baby comes.  Both of my parents and my brother have been taking turns of taking care of my nephew while his mom is in the hospital.  But my parents had to go back to work and my brother has a hard time working from home with a 2 yr. old so that is where I come in.  And I am glad to do it because that is what family does.

I loaded up my girls and all of their home school stuff and off we went.  Yesterday was our first day out at my brother’s house and it did not go well.  My brother was trying to work from home and my nephew would not let him get more than 5 feet away from him.  I could hold my nephew but only if I was within 5 feet of my brother.  I didn’t feel like I was helping much at all.  In fact, the only thing I did yesterday was teach my nephew how to say booger.  Great right?  I only said the word once too!  His finger had disappeared into his nose up to the second knuckle and I asked him if he was digging for a booger and he started saying booga booga booga over and over again.  At least I accomplished something!

Today went much better.  My brother brought him over to my parents’ house and then went to the office and that seemed to work.  He cried for a couple of minutes but then my girls kept him entertained.  They built towers and my nephew had a blast knocking them down.

That’s all for now.  I don’t know if I will post that much until next week until I return back to my own house.
